Tumbledown Run

The Tumbledown Run began in 1984 as a friendly challenge between camp students and Stanley students. Over the years, it has evolved into a highly anticipated whole-school inter-house competition. Students now compete not only to defend their titles but also to improve their finishing positions and surpass their previous times.

All students in FICS travel to Mount Tumbledown ready for the challenge. The competitive runners try to complete the 3km circular route in the fastest time possible. Less enthusiastic runners choose to walk the course, and back when the run was in February there was a particularly good stop for Teaberries at the halfway point up the hill!

The school has recorded times from more recent years, and the results of the competition are featured in the Penguin News. Having become a key fixture on the school calendar, students take the run seriously and compete for the best time in their year group. Year 11 take the opportunity to dress up and celebrate their last Tumbledown Run in style, often finding some mud along the course and wearing outfits that make running almost impossible.
